Hi Pat, Just a quick note to let you know Lily is settling really really well. For the past four days she's ate all her food From day one Lily had her beds as her quiet space and now she's coming to us for cuddles. She loves cuddles She's been 100% with her toilet and plays with her toys for a few minutes a day and then places them in her bed and snuggles up to them when sleeping. She's had a few loose dogs run at her barking in the park she froze but me or Tom have been calm/silent and moved ourselves as a barrier and took control/pressure off Lily then spent time chatting to the owners in a friendly relaxed manner until their dogs chilled and just sniffed Lily. To be honest I wanted to give them an earful about controlling their dogs but trying to lead by example for Lily's sake. Quiet well controlled dogs she's fine with, not interacting that much but not freezing. I've signed up for an adult dog socialising course that starts Jan 10th, the lady who runs it has a retired greyhound and two other site hounds. We've got a couple of doggy dates lined up with our friends retired greyhound. In the meantime if I don't like the look of a loose dogs behaviour then we detour to another park. I should add that the dogs who ran at her barking were whippets or lurchers so we didn't detour thinking they'd be ok If there's anything else you think we can do in the meantime do let me know. Also just wanted to thank you so much for matching us perfectly with Lily Zoe

I'm glad things are going so well with Lily. Sounds as if you're doing exactly the right thing with socialising. Very well done for not giving the owners an earful, it's tempting to do but would just reinforce to Lily that other dogs are a bad thing.

Luckily we've had no more barking dogs running at her but are keeping vigilante and we will definitely make sure we act appropriately for Lily Weve had some lovely walks the past few days Lily did her first proper roach today combined with a crazy greyhound smile, what a sight to behold! So glad I'd read up about greyhounds smiles, so I new what the hell she was doing! 😂 I know I'm preaching to the converted here, but if anyone is reading this that's thinking about adopting their first Greyhound then I'd really recommend 'Retired Greyhounds-A Guide to Care and Understanding', it's on the RGT webshop. I've found it super informative alongside the wisdom from this forum I'll be back soon with a hilarious video of Lily playing with her cuddly octopus toy, once I've worked out how to upload!

Worked out how to upload the video and added some more pics, I've put a link below. Lily is settling brilliantly in her new home, she seems very contented with her new life. She has such a lovely nature, an absolute sweetheart. She's a gentle soul and loves her cuddles We've had no more incidences with loose dogs barking at her and she's really enjoying her walks. We got Lily another duvet as the one she had was quite thin, she's loving the new thick one, much more comfy! Here are some more pics s349.photobucket.com/user/Zzzzz55555/story

She is such a lovely girl I don't want to get too slushy, but Lily is so incredibly gentle, intelligent, sweet and happy. We both feel so privileged to have her in our lives. Massive thank you to Pat, Maureen and Tom for matching us perfectly

Aw, she's lovely. Welcome to the world of greyhound addiction!!!! They certainly have a way that gets right to your heart and you cannot imagine ever having another type of dog ( apart from another kind of sighthound!) Then, you'll start to wonder if you should get a second greyhound, and then a third............!
Seriously, well done and welcome to the forum.

I shall have to report you to the RSPCA as that poor octopus looks positively petrified, what has Lilly been doing with the poor thing!!LOL
It is so lovely to see her in her new home and so relaxed. I like the name of the octopus, Ollie, that is a good name!
Merry Christmas to you all and very best wishes for the new year.
Much love

Lily met her new best friend Farah today. They got on brilliantly, they're both quite little and looked very cute together. We'll be taking walks together regularly I can now totally understand why so many people have two greyhounds 😍 http://instagram.com/p/BOKb9-ZgFD-

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas! It's been a busy week for Lily, so a rather long update! Lily and us spent three days over Christmas at my parents. We were a little apprehensive it was a bit soon for her to be away from home and were ready to take her home at any point if she seemed worried. Anyway she settled brilliantly and loved her time there as well as the lovely walks. Lily had already met my parents round her home and really liked them, my parents have now totally fallen in love with her too! Lily seems much more confident for the experience We had to unexpectedly look after Toms brothers dog yesterday as his wife went into labour a couple of weeks early (they had a little baby girl today:) and all doing well). We had to do a crash course on introducing dogs the night before! Luckily we already had a baby gate (for lily Incase she had any issues with toilet training, she didn't), so they could eat separately and we took away all their toys. Lily and Wicket met in the park and they went for a long walk together. They got on really well thank goodness! So Wicket has moved in for a few days. They're getting on so well and it's been great for lily to get confidence with other dogs, she was top dog from the start and Wicket was very happy about that, he totally dotes on her! Lily has been an angel and is really looking after him. Biggest news is though, Lily had a massive breakthrough today and she started wagging her tail and approaching other dogs in the park, we're so relieved to see her fun confident side coming out with other dogs! We're still controlling all dog meeting situations but she's really turned a corner Some pics from the last few days sorry all sleepy ones as when we're out and about we don't have time for pics m.flickr.com/#/photos/44291053@N02/sets/72157674696412283/Wishing you all a Happy New Year!

It's really nice to hear Lily is settling in.
When we are out and about promoting the Hounds we tell folk how easily they take to home life. Having examples like Lily on the Forum helps a lot.
Keep up the good work. Have a great New Year.
