We had a great deal of interest in the hounds when we took a pitch at the Carpenters Arms boot sale a couple of weeks ago. At one point we had a queue of folk waiting to speak to us! We gave out a lot of flyers and a received fair amount in donations. We are planning to try the Lazybones boot sale at Rettendon this coming Sunday (weather permitting). It is along the old A130 just past the Rettendon Turnpike their website is - lazybonesbootsale.webnode.com/welcome/ It is said to be busier and we do not have to get up at the crack of dawn to get a good pitch. If anyone is looking for something to do on Sunday why not come and join us in promoting the hounds. Ian

Leigh
We will be there as sellers to set up at 9.00. They say on their website that they will allow one car in as promoters for the charity. The public are allowed in at 10.00, so would be great to see you any time after 10.00.

I would like to thank Heidi, Ted and Kia for bringing their kennel hands along to the boot sale. The hounds were, as always, the stars of the show. Plenty of interest in the hounds, £45 in the bucket and a good number of leaflets given out. Not a bad day.

Ted and Kia thoroughly enjoyed themselves and reveled in all the attention. Ted says sorry for 'stealing' the treats but says he was just testing to see if they were still edible! Kia is doing very well at 'meeting and greeting' and is now becoming an 'old hand' at showing people how wonderful greyhounds are.

The car boot sale on Sundays at Dunton is usually ludicrously busy, so it maybe worth trying there one week. It's open from about 5am to all - it's the largest car boot I've ever been to. Sellers used to be £8 and buyers 20p to get in, not sure whether there's any offers for Charities. Entrance is off the Dunton roundabout on the A127 but coming from Southend it maybe better to come off at the Basildon \ Billericay junction, head towards Billericay but then turn left onto Wash Road, then immediately right into Dunton Road to get in. It's a real scrum to get in off the Dunton roundabout. www.duntonbootsale.comWith it's proximity to one of our kennels it could be interesting.

Hi Mark,
Have to admit I am working up to the Dunton boot sale. So far we have not had to pay an entrance fee as we were representing a charity. I will have to see if Dunton are as obliging.
I learnt a lot from the first two, things like having some foam pipe insulation slipped over the metal upright of the RGT banner to stop the pole from beating your car to death in the wind. There is also the issue of the advertised times. We got to Carpenters Arms sale for 7.30 which is the time they advertise the boot sale as opening and we were the second to last car on the field. A similar thing happened at the Lazybones boot sale. Goodness knows how early you need to be at Dunton for a 5.00 start!
Weather permitting I hope to do a few more sales this year. When I do I will give a shout on the forum for anyone who may enjoy standing in a field and talking about hounds to join me.

Hi Ian,
We used to pack our car the night before and then roll in between 5:30 and 6am, but it was easy for us because we were about 1-2 minutes drive from the A127 Dunton roundabout. So even the early start wasn't that painful. Getting in was OK coming from the Basildon direction considering the volume of traffic. It used to get us in the middle to 2/3rds down the field. Give them a call and see if you can get in for free.
