Dear Darcy Our mum hasn't been able to get on the site for a while but she has read your diary now and has been doing that 'laughing out loud thing' that our hoomans often do (especially when they look at us houndies for some reason ) Anyway - we are sorry we are late with our Happy Birthday wishes and hope you had a fabulous day - even if your hoomans wouldn't give you treats (what is that all about eh?! ) Tigger bounces and greyhound grins from Vinny and Gracie Lu xxxx

I am not amused. I had a good day out last week with lots of other hounds and met Prince and Baby - hope your foot is better Prince. My leg hurt a bit afterwards so I didn't get my proper walks, which is a bad thing. I heard talk about kennels, which I didn't like the sound of as it's a bit chilly at the moment. So on Friday I started limping again and on Saturday morning I kept shivering, so Mum stayed at home with me instead of going to visit people with other dogs, cats an babies. We had a lovely day in the warm instead of me being in a cold kennel - result! Mum and Dad were giggling on Saturday night and saying 'enjoy your last night as a single man Darcy' and I just thought they were talking rubbish as usual.
Anyhoo, Sunday morning they all disappeared and then came back with another houndie! At first I thought it was a very good thing as we went for walk together but then she came into my house, and sat on the extra duvet they'd put down, the nerve of it. I told Mum there had been a mistake but she said this was my new friend and this was her forever home too. Huh!
So, my bachelor days are over and I suppose I'll have to get used to it. I'm still getting lots of cuddles and food so it's not too bad. I have to wear my muzzle at night, which I don't like but Mum says that won't be forever.
The family can never agree on anything, so Night Roamer became Roma (after they'd spent the afternoon arguing about Lizzie, Daisy, Gypsy and Pickle). Personally I think she should be called Aroma because frankly, she's a bit whiffy. Mum says she will have a bath soon, but I said that's not going to sort out her burps (both botty and the top end sort). It's not very ladylike and frankly her breath could banjax a buffalo!
I will post some piccies of me in my Christmas attire soon once I've instructed Mum how to do it.
Happy Christmas to all houndies and your hoomans.
PS - I have heard talk of Turkey - is this a good thing or should I be worried?

I appear to have neglected my diary, life is so busy, what with sleeping, eating, sleeping, walking, having my belly rubbed, sleeping.
Roma is still with us. We've sorted things out between us - she knows not to mess with my bed and I have learned that just because she's a slow eater, it doesn't means she wants me to come and help out with her dinner once I've finished mine. Her toys always sound more exciting than mine, even though Mum says they are exactly the same, but I've also learned not to try and take toys away from her.
She is OK but a bit on the noisy side. She was very quiet when she first came but she's making up for it now. Things she barks at - her reflection in the window, wheelie bins that are being moved, the nice old lady who delivers the free papers with a wheelie trolley and people wheeling suitcases, which would be OK if we didn't live near the station. She is OK with pushchairs though, thank goodness. I bark if loose dogs get too close to me, but other than that the last time I barked was on bonfire night. If I see a fox or a cat I am all business - shoulders down, nose out, silent but deadly. Madam, on the other hand, flies to the end of her lead and hollers like a madwoman (I mean Roma, not Mum).
Anyhoo, Dad took me for a boys day out today. Well sort of, we met Aunties Pat and Mary at Tesco and spread the word about houndies. I met some other houndies as well - Hi Ted and Elly, see you at Stifford. I love meeting my public and they love meeting me. It all got a bit tiring though, so I laid down on my mat after a while. People were laughing at me, Dad said it was because I was flat out on my side with my 'retired and loving it' coat on.
I am tired again now, so I shall do a quick patrol of the garden and turn in for the night. Hope to see more of my houndie pals at various events coming up.

Warning to all houndies - foxes have sharp bits. Also, don't try to shake them, they are heavy and do your neck in.
I was innocently wandering in my garden when I was attached by ravening hoardes of foxes, there must have been dozens....oh, OK - Mum has told me not to exagerrate.
I chased a fox up the garden at high speed and got hold of it, but it fought back. I have lots of holes in me, including a big one in my chest. I've spent all day at the vets having lots of lovely drugs and I now seem to be sewn together. My neck doesn't half hurt. Not sure how they're going to walk me - they're worried about hurting my neck with a collar, and the harness will pull on my chest wound. I'm sure they'll think of something.
I was going to take the hoomans to the boot sale on Sunday, but they say I'm not a very good advert for houndies at the moment, so we shall see.
I was whimpering at the vets when Mum came to pick me up, then the vet told her how much it would cost and Mum started whimpering too. She's such a wuss, she's got this little piece of plastic that takes care of things like that so I don't know what the problem was!

Hmm, its a shame that our old boy Blue hadn't issued a warning - he once caught a fox and came off far worse and needed about 50 stitches around his face! They're just not worth the bother :-)
Hope you feel better soon....

I used to do wild life rescue and have dealt with a lot of foxes and they might be nice to look at but they are quick , have got very sharp teeth and have and carry and lot of nasty bugs so are definitely one to avoid. Hope he is feeling better. Leigh/heidi

Oh my poor Mr Darcy, Big hugs all round mate, and healing thoughts right at you. You would get lots of fuss at the boot sale and have a lot of sympathy from the general public. You are always a great advert for us houndies. Hope your better soon.

Hi all,
I am nicely recovered now - well I was only miserable for a day or so, then I was back to searching the garden for foxes every night. Mum's looking up ways of deterring foxes from coming into the garden, but I say bring 'em on. Mum also says that their old cat was more of a deterrent than 2 big greyhounds, she can be very hurtful sometimes.
Thanks for all your good wishes. Blaze and Shadow - pots and kettles, that's all I'm saying. You know my motto, if you can't be running, you might as well be sleeping. See you all soon.
Darcy.
