After a couple of weeks agonising over which black dog to choose, we've reserved Darcy and he will be coming home with us on Saturday week. We had a long list of prospective names but we've decided that Darcy is a fitting name for a handsome boy.
Just to introduce myself, I walk the dogs on Saturdays with my daughters. We've been doing it for a couple of years and managed to drag my husband to help with transporting a few to the Stifford Show this year. That was on the Saturday. On the Monday after, Mr 'we'renothavingadoganddefinitelynotagreyhound' said we could have one.
As I said, the choice has been hard. Sometimes knowing them all beforehand doesn't make it any easier.
I've met a lot of you at various shows and hope to see more of you in the future with my own hound in tow.

Wow, well done and congratulations to you...both on giving the lovely Darcy a home and working on your husband!! A good strategy to take him along to the Stifford show, what will you do to secure dog number 2, I wonder??!!......
I think I do know you (I'm Brennan's Mum, shortly to also be Nellie's Mum) , sorry to sound rude, but I don't know your name, though I've seen you both at the kennels and Stifford. I bet your daughters are really excited. Hope to see you at a show with Mr Darcy soon

My husband said a similar thing before we chose Tigger, six weeks later we went back to the kennels and chose a second dog called starsky. We were also at Stifford show. I wish you well with Darcy and watching this space to see if dog number 2 comes to stay!

Congratulations on homing Darcey - he is a lovely boy I also had a husband who said the same thing before we had Betty and you can guess who makes the most fuss of her!!! I think I know who you are (I used to walk at Ockendon). Enjoy your new addition

I am so pleased for you and your family. We have been amazed at just how much joy our Greyhound Simon has brought to our family.

Thanks all. Mark, it was the show that did it. All the dogs we took from kennels were very well-behaved. I'd taken Charlie and he was a little overwhelmed at first, and cuddled up to Ian for reassurance. That helped! Also, Ian helped us put them back in the kennels and give them their dinner, and he later confessed that he was terribly tempted to load one into the car and drive off. I am usually the impetuous one. We didn't push it at all so the suggestion came from him. He chose his moment, I'd just finished a 12 hour night shift and was looking forward to bed - I lay awake for ages like a kid at Christmas. I'll have to think of a pretext to get him up to the kennels when we're ready for a Lizzie (or a Bridget) to go with the handsome Mr Darcy.

It's early days yet but he seems to be settling in really well. The only thing is that we have had a couple of run ins with the glass patio doors, literally.... I'm sure mum(Sally) will update you all soon. And Kelly says hi she doesn't have access to the forum at the moment and hasn't forgotten anyone!

The only thing is that we have had a couple of run ins with the glass patio doors, literally.... You may need to get something in front of the patio doors so it's visible to Darcy, I remember this being mentioned in books I read on Greys several years ago, could be a net curtain, could be a venetian blind, could in the short term be something low against it. I can't remember what the book suggested, but it's just about something visual for the dog to see so it knows there is something there and it can't just run inside or out.

We put some large tape crosses over the windows which seems to have done the trick
