Hello everyone, my family and I have recently adopted Simon who is a little bit under two years old. We have only had him week and a half but he is settling in very well. We have really been enjoying spending time with him and he is such a gentle giant. He hasn't been enjoying going for walks much but we had a bit of a breakthrough today. We went to Belhus woods and when we got there he jumped out of the car! Up until today getting him out had been really hard work as he would like on his side and not move! He also enjoyed his first dog class at Billaricay Dog School yesterday. ;D

Hi I met you yesterday at BDTS where I work, I had Ruby with me (the black bitch). Simon is such a lovely boy, as I mentioned yesterday my Charlie was a complete wreck when we got him, he was even scared of his own shadow, but with lots of TLC and work he is a completely different boy.

Hi, perservere he will be fine. Our Patrick hated getting and out of the car but a few biscuits and gentle easing over a couple of months and he now loves it. Welcome to this lovely forum. x

Thank you for all your replies, we will certainly persevere as Simon is already part of the family. Thanks for your message Angela, I think he enjoyed his class and he did well when we practiced his moves today! We'll be back on the 25th!

I've seen the photo of Simon on one of the other threads and he does most certainly look like a houndie who has landed on his paws butter side up ;D Bless him - so pleased he enjoyed Dog School

Congratulations on giving Simon his forever home, and for adopting a black beauty.
You will find that the shy ones (we have one- Brennan) gradually come out of their shell.

Simon seems to have totally transformed over the last couple of days. Today he was keen for his walk and he was very interested when we visited my parents house and pets at home. Tomorrow he is going to the grooming parlour for a bath! I have to confess that I have not homed a black beauty though, Simon is Blue - it was just a dull day when I took his photo!

Hi and welcome to the forum. Wow, what an absolutely gorgeous boy Simon is. Congratulations on giving him his forever home. He really sounds like he is settling in well and I'm very pleased to hear that he is enjoying his walks more now I am owned by Mousha, a beautiful 7 year old blue girl, whom I have been mummy to for three years now :-) When we first got her she was pretty nervous and jumpy whenever she went for walks. With encouragement and perseverence she soon overcame her nerves and now she absolutely loves going for walkies. I wish you many fun and happy times together. Oh, and I know there will be loads of cuddles as well

Helloo Simon and Family
You'll be fine, take one day at a time, be patient, their personality will continue to develop as he becomes more confident and start enjoying each others company, they'll never be a dull moment, life is sooooo much fun with a grey (or two) by your side.
Best wishes
David, Lady Lottie and Bonkers Jerry

Thanks David. I agree that insurance is important and have organised lifetime cover for him with vetsmedicover.
